A close friend called me yesterday to chat. In conversation she shared a quote that she had recently read. She informed me that, while she related to it well, she also thought of me upon first reading it.
"What's the point of being at the top of your game if you're at the end of your rope?"
How true and how sad. What IS the point in working SO hard to accomplish things, when it results in constant stress? At what point do the rewards of achievement justify the pains of the journey? At what point does the focus become the achievement instead of the journey? When is the time to throw in the towel and when is the time to fight a little harder, hold on a little longer, push a little farther, and succeed? I always thought the value was in the journey, not the result. Why then, do we keep pushing on when the journey is no longer pleasurable but instead just another chore?
Who said the top has to be at the end of the rope? It's all in the perspective. :)
